Welcome to the Centre for Midwifery Education

The centre provides continuing midwifery and nursing education and training programmes for staff in the Coombe Women and Infant University Hospital, the National Maternity Hospital and the Rotunda Hospital as well as the general requirements for midwifery education in the Dublin catchment area. The centre will also provide specialist programmes as required nationally. The education provided includes midwifery, neonatology, gynaecology and other related programmes.

National Maternity Strategy 2016 -2026

The CME welcomes the recommendations of the National Maternity Strategy "Creating a Better Future Together National Maternity Strategy 2016-2026" published on 27th January 2016.


We particularly support the recognition of Midwifery-Supported Care as the recommended pathway of care for normal-risk women throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.
